Climate Change Threat

The problem of providing satisfactory river defences for the town is increased by the threat of coming climate change. The predicted effects of this include progressive rises in sea and river levels and more violent rainstorm patterns.  In the next 40 years these effects will add to the risk of flooding in Lewes and reduce the effectiveness of existing defences (see Information Link 5 on Climate Change impacts).
